Snakk is an app for learning Norwegian (Bokmål). It is run by Giovanni Piunno (Norway), the data controller. Contact: support@snakknorsk.app.

What we collect

• Account: your email address and your password, which we keep only as a salted hash (we cannot read it).
• Your study data: notes, vocabulary, grammar rules, exercise progress and settings. They are stored in your account so they follow you across devices. We keep daily backups for up to 90 days.
• AI requests: when you use an AI feature (chat, note correction, exercise generation) the text you send, and images you attach in the chat, are sent for processing. Chat conversations are not stored by us after the answer is returned.
• Usage counters: credits used, plan status, and daily request counters (including a counter per IP address) to prevent abuse. These counters are kept for about 2 days.
• Technical logs: error records (no message content) kept for 7 days, to fix problems.

Who processes your data

• Cloudflare (hosting, storage, sending our emails).
• AI providers: your AI requests are sent to model providers through Google (Gemini API) and OpenRouter, which routes them to model companies such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Google. Each provider has its own terms; some may keep requests for a limited time. We do not send your name or email address with the request, but do not write sensitive personal information in notes or chat.
• Our payment provider (shown at checkout) handles payments and invoices; we do not see or store your card details.
• Google Fonts serves the fonts of the app; your browser contacts Google when loading them.
• If enabled, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a sign-up is made by a person.

Why we use it (legal basis)

To provide the service you asked for (contract), to keep it secure and prevent abuse (legitimate interest), and to comply with accounting and tax law (legal obligation).

Cookies

We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. The app stores your session and preferences in your browser's local storage, which it needs to work.

How long we keep it

Your data stays while your account exists. When you delete your account (Settings → Account → Advanced) your data and backups are deleted. If an administrator deletes an account it stays in a recovery bin for 2 days and is then removed. Payment records may be kept by the payment provider as long as the law requires.

Your rights

You can access, correct or delete your data (most of it in the app), ask for a copy, object to or limit processing, and withdraw consent. Write to support@snakknorsk.app. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in Norway: Datatilsynet).

International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country, including outside the EU/EEA, under standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

Age

Snakk is for people aged 16 or over, or younger with a parent's permission.

Changes

If we make important changes we will tell you in the app or by email.
